An offering is any money you choose to give above and beyond the tithe. The best illustration to support the theory of an offering is going to dinner. When you sit down to order dinner at a restaurant, the waiter/waitress comes to serve you. They take your order and in return bring your food to you. A good waiter/waitress will serve you before you ask for anything and will attend to your needs when an inquiry should arise. At the end of the dining experience the waiter/waitress will bring you a check for the food ordered. NOW, on the check it will have the amount you OWE and a space for you to give T.I.P.S. (TO INSURE PROMPT SERVICE). The T.I.P.S. is just as important as the amount of the bill because if the waiter/waitress has attended to your needs your T.I.P.S. should reflect being served promptly! The tithe is what we owe but the offering is how you believe GOD is serving/taking care of you. The offering has no set percentage or amount but it has to be given freely and without grudge. (2 Cor. 9:7 NLT You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.")
